Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Punjab, is the governing body for conducting the counseling process within Punjab. Within the state, 15% of All India Quota counseling is conducted by Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), whereas the rest 85% is conducted by the state governing body BFUHS. After the declaration of NEET score, the governing body conducts the counseling for the eligible students.
There are around 900 MBBS seats and 970 BDS seats in the state of Punjab. The counseling is conducted in the medical colleges on the basis of the scores secured in NEET UG examination. There are two rounds of counseling in the state of Punjab. After two rounds of counseling, the governing body conducts a mop up round to fill up the vacant seats of the colleges.

Eligibility Criteria
- Only the citizens of India or Person of Indian Origin are eligible for the counseling procedure.
- 17 years is the minimum age of the candidates to take the admission in the medical colleges in Punjab.
- Candidate must be a bonafide resident of Punjab State. This clause excludes certain candidates who belong to either of the following categories:
- Candidates who are wards/dependants of late employees of Punjab Government/ All India Services born on Punjab cadre, or Serving Judges and employees of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Boards/Corporations/Statutory Bodies by an act of State of Punjab holding posts outside the state by virtue of which the candidates have completed their Class 11 and/or 12 outside Punjab.
- Candidates who are wards/dependants of late employees of the Central Government, posted outside Punjab for a minimum of two out of three years preceding the Class 12 exam of the candidates due to which candidates were bound to complete Clas 12 outside the state.
- Candidates who are wards/dependants of late employees under the Punjab Government pension scheme who have retired and settled outside the state o or before January 1 of the year of candidates passing their Class 12 exam, thus compelling the candidates to complete their Class 12 exam outside the state.
- Candidates who are wards of late employees of military/para-military/ex-military/ para-military forces born in Punjab. The late ex-defence personnel who have retired on or after January of the year preceding two years of candidates appearing in Class 12 exam.
- Candidates who are wards of defence personnel posted in Punjab
- Candidates applying under minority and NRI quota and not a bonafide residents of Punjab
Apart from this the candidates should pass class 12 examinations with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English from a recognized board of education. To be eligible for the examination, the unreserved category candidate must secure 50% marks while that of PH category and unreserved category candidates must have secured 45%. And 40% for reserved category including PH reserved. Candidates should also secure the minimum qualifying percentile in the NEET UG Exam as per the qualifying criteria mentioned in the table below.

Reservation Policy
- In Government or Government supported Medical or Dental colleges, the admission will be taken under two segregates- 15% All India Quota Seats and 85% State Quota Seats. DGHS will conduct the counseling process of 15% All India Quota seats while BFUHS, the state governing body will conduct the counseling for the rest 85% of the seats on the basis of reservation.
- In Private medical or dental colleges, the seats will be divided homogenously into 50% for State Quota and 50% for Management quota. Within this 50% state quota seats, the admissions will be done following the reservation policy of the state.

Application Form
The candidates who want to get into MBBS and BDS courses from government and private colleges in Punjab need to fill the NEET counseling form Punjab. You need to fill the counseling application form on the official website of the BFUHS.
Step 1: Visit the official BFUHS website www.bfuhs.ac.in.
Step 2: Then go to the login or register page.
Step 3: If you register for the first time, you need to go to “Candidate Registration.” While completing the registration, you need to enter your NEET roll number, rank, date of birth, and mobile number. Once you have successfully registered, then you will receive a registration number and a security pin.
Step 4: If you have already registered, you need to do “candidate login.” You must enter your NEET 2021 roll number, the generated registration number, and the security PIN.
Step 5: Once you have logged in, you must enter your academic details like class 10 marks, 12 marks, NEET 2021 marks and ranks, your address for verification.
Step 6: After filling in all the details, go to “Save and Pay” and proceed to NEET 2021 counseling application fees payment.
Step 7: Make the payment by choosing your choice of online payment from the options mentioned on the screen.
Step 8: The filled application form will come on the screen. You need to download and save it for future use.

NEET Merit List: Punjab
BFUHS will publish the merit list of the qualified candidates. The candidates who will register online for the counseling process are the only eligible one for 85% state quota counseling. As per the secured ranks, the governing body will conduct the counseling process of the candidates. After the declaration of NEET UG merit list, the candidates will be eligible to appear for the state quota seats and private seats in Punjab will be done through counseling sessions in which registered candidates will be called as per their ranks in the state merit list of Punjab. The state quota merit list will be available online it also includes the candidate’s name, father’s name, category, NEET roll number, NEET marks and State merit rank.
Steps to download NEET merit list
- The candidates have to visit the official website of BFUHS to check their names in the merit list.
- The updated merit list will be shown to the candidates after entering name or NEET roll number.
- The State Rank as derived from NEET scores is also mentioned in the merit list.
- The candidate has to take a print out of the merit list
After the merit list is being declared, the candidates whose name has successfully declared are then called in for the counseling process. BFUHS publishes the allotment result in online platform of its official website.
NEET counseling
The admissions to MBBS/BDS are made through the MCC counseling process based on the NEET UG score. Candidates who qualify for the NEET exam can also apply for NEET admission to medical colleges. The NEET-UG counseling process is based on the All India Quota, State Quota, and Deemed Universities.
Process of NEET counseling in Punjab
Online Registration: The interested candidates have to fill up the online application form and pay the non-refundable counseling fee, to take part in the counseling process to be conducted on the basis of candidate’s names in the merit list. While filling up the Online Registration Form, the candidates will fill in the required details regarding their personal and educational information. Incomplete forms submitted will be summarily rejected. Candidates will receive user ID and Password on successful completion of the registration process.
Verification of Certificates/Documents: in the next step, the counseling authority will verify every document of the eligible candidate. Candidates applying under the sports, reserved, defence, minority quota in the medical and dental colleges of Punjab are required to the venues within scheduled date and time with all supportive documents. The candidates need to bring their original certificates/documents along with self attested copies and passport size photos at the counseling centres to get them verified. After the verification session, the candidates will get a scheduled date for the counseling.
Merit List declaration: The list of the eligible candidates selected for the first round of counseling including common merit lists, including names of registered candidates will be displayed online in the official website of BFUHS.
Selection of College: Complete list of medical and dental colleges in Punjab will be accessible to the candidates and they will have to pick the college/institutions as per their wish to join. They can make their selection of colleges/courses according to the order of preference which they can avail till those are exhausted. Candidates must lock their choices or else, the choices will be locked automatically. Candidates will have to fill in fresh choices for the second round of counseling according to the seats available as the choices for the previous will not be considered.
Seat Allotment: Three rounds of counseling will be conducted, namely First round and Second round. BFUHS official website will release the result of every round of seat allotment. Thereafter admission of the candidates will be based on NEET UG score and choice filling done during the form fill up.
Reporting at the College:- Candidates will have to download allocation letter from the official website after the display of counseling results. After seats have been allotted to candidates in a particular round, they have to report within stipulated time and date, failing which the seat will be cancelled without any notice. They will have to report to the concerned college with all the relevant original documents and their photocopies which will be verified along with the prescribed tuition fees.

State Medical Cutoffs:
The NEET 2018 ranks and marks secured by the last candidates to secure seats in the Government Medical Colleges of Punjab are given below based on the data available by Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) and State Counseling Authority, to be used for reference purpose only:
Cancellation and Fee Refund:
Candidates who are willing for withdrawal of admission from a particular seat must submit in writing to the respective college authorities within 10days before the commencement of last date of counseling. Along with the application, the candidates have to submit the same photograph affixed during admission, copy of allotment letter, and self attested copy of fee receipt. If a candidate withdraws admission to upgrade his/her seat in the second round of counseling, the previous admission will be considered cancelled and the fee will be refunded.
In case the candidate withdraws admission after the stipulated time, then he/she have to pay a penalty amount of INR 1,00,000/- Now, if the candidate fail to pay the penalty fee, then his/her documents will not be refunded and the fee will also not be refunded.
