Assam NEET UG counseling Procedure

Directorate of Medical Education (DME) is the governing body for conducting the counseling process within Assam. Within the state, 15% of All India Quota counseling is conducted by Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), whereas the rest 85% is conducted by the state governing body. After the declaration of NEET score, the governing body conducts the counseling for the eligible students.

There are around 726 MBBS seats and 40 BDS seats in the state of Assam. The counseling is conducted in the medical colleges on the basis of the scores secured in NEET UG examination. There are two rounds of counseling in the state of Assam. After two rounds of counseling, the governing body conducts a mop up round to fill up the vacant seats of the colleges.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Only the citizens of India or Person of Indian Origin are eligible for the counseling procedure. Also the overseas citizen of Indian (card holder) is also eligible for the MBBS/BDS courses in the state.
  • 17 years is the minimum age of the candidates to take the admission in the medical colleges in Assam.
  • The candidates also have to provide a proper domicile certificate of the state to prove its local/non local status during the time of counseling.
  1. Under the presidential order the candidates should come under the definition of local candidates during the time of counseling.
  2. Either the parents of the candidates or the candidates themselves have to stay within the state with a minimum period of total ten years.
  3. Either of the parents of the candidates has to work under the state government or the central government, or educational institutions or public sector or any other institution within the state.
  4. The spouse of the candidate has to work under the state government or the central government, or educational institutions or public sector or any other institution within the state.

The eligibility criteria for the students appearing for 85% state quota counseling. The students have to follow certain clauses

  • The candidate should complete his schooling from an institution located within the state
  • A minimum stay of four consecutive years is required for the candidates before appearing for the examination
  • If the candidate has studied for seven consecutive years in two or more different local areas, then the place where the candidate has spent the most years is considered to be the residential area
  • If the candidate has stayed an equal number of year in two or more local areas, the place where the candidate has spent the last year is considered to be the period of stay

Apart from this the candidates should pass class 12 examinations with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English from a recognized board of education. To be eligible for the examination, the unreserved category candidate must secure 50% marks while that of PH category and reserved category (SC/ST/OBC) candidates must have secured 40%.

The state of Assam also has six MBBS seats reserved for the Central Pool Quota, and 17 BDS Seats reserved for the North-East region quota.

Reservation Policy

  • In Government or Government supported Medical or Dental colleges, the admission will be taken under two segregates- 15% All India Quota Seats and 85% State Quota Seats. DGHS will conduct the counseling process of 15% All India Quota seats while the state governing body (DME) will conduct the counseling for the rest 85% of the seats on the basis of reservation.
  • There are six MBBS seats reserved for the Central Pool quota and 17 BDS for North East quota
  • In Private medical or dental colleges, the seats will be divided homogenously into 50% for State Quota and 50% for Management quota. Within this 50% state quota seats, the admissions will be done following the reservation policy of the state.

Important Points

  • The reserved category candidates should produce the legitimate caste certificate issued by the government authority at the time of counseling
  • The candidates who belong to socially, economically and educationally backward category have to show the non inclusion certificate along with caste certificate
  • The authorized government authority should sign the caste certificate
  • If there are no candidates appear from TGL/Ex TGL, Moran or Motak communities then the seat will be transferred to the candidates belonging to OBC/MOBC-NCL category
  • If a reserved category candidate is selected in the unreserved seat, then that particular seat would remain vacant for the reserved category candidate only
  • After the fulfillment of reserved category seats, the remaining vacant seats will be open for the unreserved category

Application Form

The candidates who want to get into MBBS and BDS courses from government and private colleges in Assam need to fill the NEET counseling form Assam. You need to fill the counseling application form on the official website.

Step 1: You need to register for the NEET 2021 counseling from the official DME website by entering your email address and phone number.

Step 2: Once you have registered, you will get a user ID and password. You need to log in with the credentials and fill in the NEET Assam application form 2021. You need to fill in your personal information like your name, father’s name, mother’s name, address, mobile number, DOB, category, identification marks, nationality, and more.

Step 3: You need to choose the course and college you want to get into. The MBBS admissions in Assam are based on the state merit position and the availability of seats.

Step 4: Fill in all your academic details, including your class 10 and class 12 marks.

Step 5: You need to check the declaration form, which mentions that all the information you filled in is valid. In case of discrepancies, legal actions will be taken.

NEET Merit List: Assam

DME will publish the merit list of the qualified candidates. The candidates who will register online for the counseling process are the only eligible one for 85% state quota counseling. As per the secured ranks, the governing body will conduct the counseling process of the candidates. After the declaration of NEET UG merit list, the candidates will be eligible to appear for the state quota counseling. The state quota merit list will be available online it also includes the candidate’s name, father’s name, category, NEET roll, NEET marks and State merit rank.

NEET counseling

The admissions to MBBS/BDS are made through the MCC counseling process based on the NEET UG score. Candidates who qualify for the NEET exam can also apply for NEET admission to medical colleges. The NEET-UG counseling process is based on the All India Quota, State Quota, and Deemed Universities.

Process of NEET counseling in Assam

Online Registration: The interested candidates have to register online by filling up necessary details in the official website of the governing authority. The candidates will get respective registration number after the completion of the process.

Counseling Fee (Irrespective of Categories) every candidate has to pay Rs 500 as the counseling fee

Reporting to the assigned venue: the counseling process in Assam is conducted offline. After following the latest updates on the official website of DME, the students have to report to the venue. Here the students will be called as per the rank secured in the state and category wise.

Verification of Documents: in the next step, the counseling authority will verify every document of the eligible candidate. After the verification session, the candidates will get a scheduled date for the counseling.

Seat Allotment: There will be two rounds of counseling: First and Second round. DME official website will publish the necessary details of the student. The admission will be processed as per the rank secured by the candidates in NEET examination and the choice filling given at the time of application form.

Reporting: The candidates have to reach the respective college for admission purpose with the proper admission letter along with proper documents as mentioned in the website of DME and tuition fees.
