Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla, on behalf of the Department of Medical Education and Researh, Government of Himachal Pradesh is the governing body for conducting the counseling process within Himachal Pradesh. Within the state, 15% of All India Quota counseling is conducted by Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), whereas the rest 85% is conducted by the state governing body HPU. After the declaration of NEET score, the governing body conducts the counseling for the eligible students.
There are around 650 MBBS seats and 180 BDS seats in the state of Himachal Pradesh. The counseling is conducted in the medical colleges on the basis of the scores secured in NEET UG examination. There are two rounds of counseling in the state of Himachal Pradesh. After two rounds of counseling, the governing body conducts a mop up round to fill up the vacant seats of the colleges.

Eligibility Criteria
- Only the citizens of India or Person of Indian Origin are eligible for the counseling procedure.
- 17 years is the minimum age of the candidates to take the admission in the medical colleges in Himachal Pradesh.
- The candidates must be wards of Bonafide Himachali/Domicile/Himachal Government employees of autonomous bodies wholly or partially financed by the Government of Himachal Pradesh.
- The candidates must have passed at least two or more exams among Middle or equiva- lent/Matric or equivalent/10+1 or equivalent/10+2 or equivalent from the recognized schools or colleges situated in the State of Himachal Pradesh and affiliated to ICSE/ CBSE/H.P. Board of School Education or equivalent Boards/Universities.
- The Candidates who are Bonafide Himachali who are the student of Navodaya Schools from Himachal Pradesh and who have passed Class 10 or 12 examinations under the exchange programme from other Navodaya Schools in India are also eligible to apply.
Apart from this the candidates should pass class 12 examinations with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English from a recognized board of education. To be eligible for the examination, the unreserved category candidate must secure 50% marks while that of PH category and reserved category (SC/ST/OBC) candidates must have secured 40%.
Candidates should also secure the minimum qualifying percentile in the NEET UG Exam as per the qualifying criteria mentioned in the table below.

Reservation Policy
- In Government or Government supported Medical or Dental colleges, the admission will be taken under two segregates- 15% All India Quota Seats and 85% State Quota Seats. DGHS will conduct the counseling process of 15% All India Quota seats while HPU, the state governing body will conduct the counseling for the rest 85% of the seats on the basis of reservation.
- In Private medical or dental colleges, the seats will be divided homogenously into 50% for State Quota and 50% for Management quota. Within this 50% state quota seats, the admissions will be done following the reservation policy of the state.

Application Form
The candidates who want to get into MBBS and BDS courses from government and private colleges in Himachal Pradesh need to fill the NEET counseling form Himachal Pradesh. You need to fill the counseling application form on the official website of the Himachal Pradesh University.
Step 1: Visit the official Himachal Pradesh University website https://hp.online-counselling.co.in https://hpuniv.ac.in/.
Step 2: Then go to the login or register page.
Step 3: If you register for the first time, you need to go to “Candidate Registration.” While completing the registration, you need to enter your NEET roll number, rank, date of birth, and mobile number. Once you have successfully registered, then you will receive a registration number and a security pin.
Step 4: If you have already registered, you need to do “candidate login.” You must enter your NEET 2021 roll number, the generated registration number, and the security PIN.
Step 5: Once you have logged in, you must enter your academic details like class 10 marks, 12 marks, NEET 2021 marks and ranks, your address for verification.
Step 6: After filling in all the details, go to “Save and Pay” and proceed to NEET 2021 counseling application fees payment.
Step 7: Make the payment by choosing your choice of online payment from the options mentioned on the screen.
Step 8: The filled application form will come on the screen. You need to download and save it for future use.

NEET Merit List: Himachal Pradesh
HPU will publish the merit list of the qualified candidates.
Steps to check NEET merit list online
- The candidates have to visit the official website of HPU to check their names in the merit list.
- The updated merit list will be shown to the candidates after entering name or NEET roll number.
- Candidates have to match their name and roll number in the merit list.
- The State Rank as derived from NEET scores is also mentioned in the merit list.
- The candidate has to take a print out of the merit list
After the merit list is declared, the successful candidates whose names appear in the list are called for the counseling process. The seat allotment during the counseling session is according to the merit list based on their respective categories and preferences mentioned by the candidates during registration. HPU then publishes the allotment results online.

The admissions to MBBS/BDS are made through the MCC counseling process based on your NEET UG score. Candidates who clear the NEET examination can also apply for NEET admission to medical colleges. The NEET-UG counseling process is based on the All India Quota, State Quota, and Deemed Universities.
Process of NEET counseling in Himachal Pradesh

Online Registration: The interested candidates have to register online by filling up necessary details in the official website of the governing authority and paying the non-refundable registration fee. The candidates will get respective registration number after the completion of the process.
Application plus Counseling Fee (General/NRI/OBC/Other Categories) every candidate has to pay INR 1600/-. Counseling Fee (SC/ST/IRDP/BPL)- INR 800/-
Merit List declaration: The list of the eligible candidates will be displayed online in the official website of HPU.
Verification of Documents: in the next step, the counseling authority will verify every document of the eligible candidate. After the verification session, the candidates will get a scheduled date for the counseling
Choice filling: In this step, the candidates have to fill up choices where they want to join as a medical student. As per the secured NEET score, the seats will be allotted to the candidate.
Reporting: On the scheduled date the candidates have to report to the venue on scheduled time as referred in the official website. Candidates will be called for counseling based on their state merit rank. It is mandatory that candidates carry all the relevant documents with them to the counseling venue for verification by the counseling authority.
Document verification: The counseling committee of HPU will verify the original documents of the candidates at the counseling venue. Candidates who fail to bring their original documents at that time will not be allotted seats in the medical and dental colleges of Himachal Pradesh.
Seat Allotment: There will be three rounds of counseling for Himachal Pradesh MBBS/BDS seats. The merit list of the eligible candidates will be published in the official website. Admission of the candidates will be based on the NEET UG score and choices filed in by the candidates at the time of filling up the application form.
Admission: After the admission letter is issued, the candidates have to report at the concerned college for admission. On the day of selection, the selected candidates have to pay the required amount of fees to the college authority. If the candidate fails to complete the payment of fees, then the seat will be cancelled down by the authority without any notice.
